Pool safety: Not the most exciting topic but SO IMPORTANT!! Being pool safe is incredibly important for your child. With all the summer fun activities, your child is bound to be introduced to a body of water.

This just means that everyone should learn to swim. Adults & children!

Make sure to go over safety tips with your child and make sure the proper chaperone/safety officials will be present. This means a currently certified lifeguard who is also cert. in first aid. If no lifeguard is on duty, it should be properly stated and you are then fully responsible as the parent.

The Nat’l Drowning Prevention Alliance may sound terrifying but drowning claims more victims than you’d expect.

We picked and chose some pool safety tips we feel are most important:

  1. NEVER leave a child unattended in any body of water, even the bath.
  2. Learn CPR and rescue breathing - this is fast, easy and you’ll feel better if you do.
  3. Even if your child has had swim lessons they are not DROWN-proof!
  4. Flotation devices (like water wings) can actually be a BAD thing. These should not be used to substitute proper supervision or learning to swim.
  5. Keep a phone nearby when using pool.
  6. CPR instructions should ALWAYS be posted. Pool should ALWAYS have a life-saving ring, shepherd’s hook and backboard.
  7. Clearly go over pool rules with your child BEFORE entering pool.
